I was born and raised in Onslow County, North Carolina. When I was a boy, I enjoyed hearing my parents talking with my aunt's & uncle's about the people who they remembered from when they themselves were young and the stories about the folks we had came from. I never met any of my grandparents, they had all died before I was born, but I sure knew who they were and treasured the stories I heard about them.
On the PBS show finding your roots they said about 30% of Americans don't know about their family beyond their grandparents, I think that is sad.
Besides The Silance family, I'm kin to these families; Williams, King, Marshburn, Pearce, Davis, Screws, Gurganus, and more.
I now live in Texas. My wife is kin to these families here; Johnson, Lewis, Russell, Murray, Stapp, McMullen and a few more. She's also kin to the McCloskey and Johnson family of Pulaski County, Kentucky, as well as the Russell and Ottinger families ofJackson County, Alabama, and the Mitchell family of Oklahoma and Missouri. Her Lewis line goes back to John Lewis 1592 - 1657 from Monmouthshire, Wales, and back thru him to Rhys Goch born abt. 1070.
