I'm passionate about genealogy. I began researching my family history to know who I come from. Learning about their lives, beliefs, and struggles, has left me deeply connected. I know my roots.
Find A Grave is a website that I love. Creating and managing a memorial honoring a life, connecting family together, and providing details that give a glimpse into their world is satisfying. However, there can be ugliness. Be sure to take a nice tone. Kindness first and always.
The memorials I manage or create are to help others who come along looking for their history or want to sit at the virtual grave of their loved one. Be respectful and honor their life. Please don't post pictures or images that might cause distress to a loved one. Be circumspect when it comes to a death certificate or obituary. I prefer that you don't post death certificates. The facts around the death may be sensitive and cause distress. Take extra care with children. Each memorial page must be filled with kindness, love, and honor for the deceased life.
IMPORTANT
1) Please do not post screen prints of records from genealogy websites. This information is part of the deceased's biography and belongs in the bio section. The screen prints make the look of the memorial untidy.
2) Please don't post biographical information in flowers. Only two flowers display at a time and the information will eventually be hidden as more flowers are added. Send the information in the bio section.
3) Please submit sourced, verified information. NOTE: Information found on Ancestry Member Trees, Geneanet Community Trees, FamilySearch trees, etc. are NOT acceptable and do not qualify as sourced documentation. All of these options are unreliable, full of false information, and cannot be trusted. If you send a link to one of the sources, I will never look at it. I find this to be a problem over and over in my own research.
4) Please do not assume that death location is the same as the cemetery location. Often it's not. I won't add unverified information to the page. I research each change request.
It's much easier to read about the person's life in a biography than sort through various postings to the memorial page.
I'm happy to transfer memorials that do not belong to my family. Just ask.
