I'm the youngest in a generation that is almost gone. My parents were older than most having babies. Mom was 38 going on OLD. Dad was 53 and (fibbed) to my mom about his age. I never met my paternal grandparents. My grandpa was b. 1855 and grandma abt. 1866. I am the family historian as my DNA traces back the furthest. I gave my 1st cousins DNA kits for Christmas We are on an amazing journey. As a woman of color, it's been an up and down the hill battle. But, to find that my paternal great grandma was born free as well as her parents moved me. Then, to find that my paternal grandpa and his family too were not slaves. I'm a film producer by trade and I also consult on entertainment (music, film and tv). I want to tell our family story with accuracy.

My paternal great grandma was born in Lenoir NC so finding her was wonderful. NOBODY in our family knew anything about her. DNA proved her to be a FREE woman of color and I found an amazing story of Dula Town in my research. You will see our family history on screen soon. The stories found, must be told. It changed how I look at Slavery and non-people of color. I found that "love" and common ground.
