My interest in genealogy is due to my parents moving away from their home states (West Virginia/Illinois) and not having a great deal of family interaction. I wanted to learn more about the lines that I did not know much about.
My father's line goes back to John Webb of New Kent/Henrico Virginia, with a 17th century arrival. This line moved west to Patrick/Carroll/Floyd Counties in Virginia and later into Eastern West Virginia. Common surnames are Webb, Goad, Hodge/Hodges, McCall. I am descended from two illegitimate lines on the McCall (children fathered by Samuel Wiseman) and Hodges line.
My mother's line includes Kelly (I am stuck at my great grandfather), McCrite (settled in South Carolina in the 18th century), and Buster lines. My mother was estranged from her father, so I know very little about the Kelly line. All seem to have roots in Southern Illinois and Tennessee.
