Genealogist for over 25 years.
Started walking cemetery's for exercise and decided to be useful while doing it. Will do photo requests locally. If I create a memorial and it's for your family member, feel free to message me and I'll transfer memorial to you. I am not a grave collector!
The important part of Find-A-Grave is for visitors to a cemetery to actually be able to FIND a Grave! Any grave photos I take will have GPS coordinates in the EXIF meta-data which will import into Find-A-Grave. If your memorial already has a photo but no GPS coordinates, I will upload a new, current, grave photo with coordinates so the coordinates get updated in Find-A-Grave. If you do not like the photo, feel free to delete it, the coordinates still get retained. Current photos though are important even though it may not be as "pretty" looking as your photo - it can show the degradation of the grave marker over time and perhaps a family member may want to get it taken care of!
The other part of the Finding-a-Grave in the cemetery is missing headstones. If there is a photo request of a grave site that no headstone is found, I will take photos of the surrounding area and mark the photo up on where the grave is (within reasonable distance). The photos will say if it is to the left or right of another marker, in front of (to the head of) which ever marker, etc.. I am never just guessing on locations. I fully analyze the surrounding grave markers and determine the grave layout pattern in the cemetery (if maps are not available) on where it would be. My goal is to be able to help anyone looking for a grave to be able to find it, marked or unmarked.
