Thomas Hope and his first wife, Jean Herkness were the parents of my gt-gt grandfather, James Hope, b.1801 and of sister Ann (Jardine) b 1803,who lived in Knaresborough.

James worked in Annan then returned to his wife Ann Turnbull's home town of Knaresborough. Both died there.

Thomas Hope and Mary Birney had a natural son John in 1794,who became a draper in Bradford and took in orphaned William Hope as an apprentice.
