PLEASE DO NOT ADD OBITUARIES - ESPECIALLY AS PHOTOS - TO ANY OF MY MEMORIALS IF THEY CONTAIN THE NAMES AND/OR LOCATIONS OF PEOPLE WHO CAN REASONABLY BE EXPECTED TO STILL BE LIVING! I understand that obituaries have already been published somewhere else and are a great source of information. In the context of Find-a-Grave, they also constitute an extreme invasion of the privacy of living people! If you have such an obit, please notify me, and i will decide whether to transcribe it for you, redacting the names and/or locations, or to delete the information in a photo processing app. The source of an obituary should ALWAYS be given!

NOTE ON MULTIPLE NAMES IN THE SURNAME FIELD: Now that Find-a-Grave allows all surnames used by an individual to be shown in the surname field, the person's surname is treated as if all of the married surnames are one unit. Second and additional surnames are not indexed or searchable independently. For example: Mrs. Judy (X) Y Z, with a birth surname of X and two married surnames of Y and Z, is indexed under "Y Z". This will get you where you want to go, IF Judy is buried under her first married surname of Y. However, it presents a problem if she is buried under her second married surname of Z. This problem also arises with individuals who had a surname change for other reasons, such as adoption. Until ancestry.com fixes this issue, perhaps by including cross-references in some manner, it might be helpful also to look for married ladies under all of their known married surnames, and others under any known surname.

This also presents an issue when you are posting what you believe to be a new memorial, when, in fact, the person already has a memorial under a different married/adoptive surname.

Please note: If you send edits, and I can't quickly verify them, I will ask for your sources. If you don't respond within about a week, I will decline the edits on the grounds that you did not respond to my request for source information. I know a week is a very short period of time, but despite what find-a-grave says about when its computer will automatically accept edits, that time period is not consistent and has been very short. I'm not trying to be a jerk about this, but I've been sent many edits that are clearly wrong, or based on someone's guess.
