My father was born Grail Ottmar Furholzer in 1915 to a German immigrant Frederich and an American mother (nee: Edna Marsh-from Erie, PA). My father and his brothers, Paul, Raymond and Stanley legally changed their last name to Fernwood in 1942 to sound "less German" although the family had been using Fernwood since 1924. Names on fathers side; Furholzer, Kinser. Marsh.
