Use What is on the Stone: If the military rank is inscribed on the headstone, it is appropriate to use it as a prefix.

Find a Grave generally advises including military rank as a prefix to a name only if the individual retired from active duty or was killed in action. For other veterans, rank is best included within the biography or inscription fields rather than the primary name field. Use the dedicated "Veteran" designation feature.

Living Relatives: Find a Grave discourages adding sensitive information or detailed, identifiable information about living people. When using obituaries, it is recommended to remove names of surviving, living family members to protect their privacy, or to list them only by relation (e.g., "three grandchildren") rather than by name.
