In 1918, Dr. John Lenz (#85450494) realized the need of a cemetery for the young village of Hazelton. He platted three acres of his farm near Hazelton and commenced selling lots. Upon leaving the community in 1919 he turned the cemetery over to the local Oddfellows Lodge No. 145. In 1954 the Oddfellows approached the Jerome County commissioners about forming a cemetery district for the Hazelton, Greenwood, and Dixon communities. An election was held and the district was duly declared on July 12, 1954. The district was later expanded to include Eden and its surrounding communities.
