I became interested in my family history after my mother's death in 2017. She was quite the historian and I have fallen in love with researching my family history. I am a descendent of Benjamin Haile, who in 1827 discovered gold while building a cabin in Lancaster County, South Carolina. The mines operation were wrecked by Sherman's troops on their march north in the closing days of the war. The land carries his name as the Haile Gold Mine. I am fortunate enough to have a copy of the book written by Charlotte Boykin Salmond Brunson, titled "Kershaw County Cousins". This book is a record of the early families of Boykin, Camden and Liberty Hill in Kershaw County, South Carolina and was compiled from records of the descendants and from several years of research. Find a Grave has allowed me to expand Charlotte Brunson's work.
