I am happy to transfer management of memorials to those more closely related. This does not need to be a site where I act obsessive or controlling. However, if I have crafted some biographical material in the biography section, I might be hesitant to transfer, because I often find myself going back, rewriting, or making corrections. Communicate with me. I'm not an ogre. And thank you in advance for any Suggested Edits or added photographs.

If you were absent from FG for over a year, you're considered inactive and the memorials you manage become available to others. If I have taken management of some memorials you created and want them back, I will be glad to pass most of them back. But you may need to request on each one and remind me you created them.

I would appreciate being cited by researchers for the photographs I've added or cite the sources I have indicated with each photograph. Please contact me if you are a researcher and need more information about something I have uploaded to the memorials or it's not clear where it came from. I can probably figure it out.

Our ancestors lived. And loved. And made choices good and bad. They laughed. They cried. They worked hard. They have their stories to tell. Find-a-Grave is a great place to honor their memory and tell their stories.

Regarding multiple last names in the last name field for remarried women: I realize I am not consistent, and my thinking on it may be weird. But my intention is to list earlier married surnames if they were widowed, but not if they were divorced or the marriage annulled from the earlier spouse. I welcome edits to include multple last names, but please reassure me you researched and know they were widowed and not divorced from the earlier spouse.

Regarding Confederate history: The Confederacy was a stain on American History. It was 100% about protecting and expanding slavery. I am not in favor of glorifying the Confederacy by using officer rankings or the veteran symbol by my relative's name. If they are my relative--and I had many Confederate ancestors--then I'm not going to do it. I want to honor my relative as an individual, not as a Confederate. The officer ranking and the veteran symbol placed by the NAME of the memorial glorify pieces of who they were that don't deserve to be glorified. HOWEVER, I often put their Confederate information in the BIOGRAPHY SECTION and am happy for others to provide specifics of the individual's Confederate service to add to the biography section. I am happy to give credit to the person for the research they've done. I want the information available to family and professional researchers. I also had a Southern ancestor or two who fought for the Union. Those years were a time of great emotion and passion for the people who lived through them. We shouldn't ignore it. But from my personal point of view, I dislike any sort of glorification of the Confederacy. The old-fashioned white-washing turns me off. I wish to consider how African Americans perceive that history in which one side fought with purposeful intent of keeping them forever in bondage.

I want to pay homage to those African-Americans enslaved or trafficked by a number of my ancestors. Sadly, there were thousands of them. My ancestors were some of the worst of the worst. Family wealth and privilege for many of my ancestors was created on the backs of those human beings they enslaved. But also I wish to pay homage to the Native Americans whose lands were taken from them. Some of my ancestors were so-called "pioneers." They killed natives in order to protect what they stole.
