John Guyton Fondren was b. 13 May 1811 York Co., S.C.-d. 24 February 1853 Thomasville, Thomas Co., Ga. His parents were Matthew Fondren and his wife, Hannah Guyton, who was the daughter of Moses Guyton and Tabitha Saxon. The Guytons were of French Huguenot extraction. John's parents died of consumption. The responsibility for his upbringing was left to his mother's brother, Moses Guyton II and his wife, Mary Love, sister of Judge Peter Love of Thomasville and daughter of Amos Love and Margaret James. The Moses Guytons family moved from N. C. to S. C. in 1790 then to Laurens Co., Ga. and then on to Thomas Co., Ga. in June of 1847.
John m. 6 November 1833 Bibb Co., Ga. Nancy Ann Thompson b. 8 May 1816 Laurens Co., Ga.-d. 27 May 1887 Thomasville, Thomas Co., Ga. She was the daughter of Alfred Thompson and Mary Roberts.

Due to the early deaths of the family members little is known of why the Guytons and Fondrens came to south Ga. Like so many of the early pioneers, it may have been in search of new land for planting. The Fondrens are buried on the Fondren-Thompson lot in the Old City Cemetery on Broad Street in Thomasville, Ga.

Due to the early deaths of the family members little is known of why the Guytons and Fondrens came to south Ga. Like so many of the early pioneers, it may have been in search of new land for planting. The Fondrens are buried on the Fondren-Thompson lot in the Old City Cemetery on Broad Street in Thomasville, Ga.
