Honoring relatives and loved ones, connecting people and linking memorials, and contributing information and details to aid in others research is what we enjoy doing.
We spend countless hours editing and updating missing or incorrect information in order to help other families while researching our own history. We strive to provide information that has been rigorously researched based on verified data per genealogy proof standards for documented source guidelines.

Requests for edits will be only be accepted upon verification. Requests will be declined if sources are not included and edits are unable to be verified. Please note that Find A Grave wants factual and actual information for memorials.
When requesting edits, include in the notes corresponding reliable sources, submit photos of source materials within copyrights, or send a message through Find A Grave with information about source locations.
- reliable documented sources include: birth certificates, death certificate, state birth or death index, marriage and divorce records, military records, BIRL files and draft registrations, immigration and naturalization records, cemetery and funeral records, court records
- derivative sources that include: census, headstones/tombstones, obituaries, family histories, family tree's, family notes and stories, home records, unsourced websites - if not accompanied with additional reliable sources requests will be declined unless further verified. These sources can be helpful for clue's and tracing dates and relationships, but often lack specific documentation citation and contain errors from blind copying of incorrect data.
MEMORIAL TRANSFERS
We don't hold family memorials hostage! Something we greatly enjoy is being able to connect memorials with those who will care for and maintain them.
Per Find A Grave: "Our first preference would be for the manager to be a relative, someone who knew the person or someone with ties to the cemetery or location."
As long as the requested memorial is not related within our family or hold a personal connection, we're happy to transfer memorial's even if they are not directly related.
To request memorial transfers send a message through Find A Grave including:
- your contributor ID #
- the Memorial ID # and name of who you are requesting
- the family relationship connection for the requested transfer for documentation
- Per Find a Grave memorials are transferred for relatives with these close relationships: child, spouse/partner, sibling, parent, grandchild, great-grandchild, grandparent, great-grandparent, niece/nephew, great-niece/nephew, aunt/uncle, great-aunt/uncle, or first cousin. This would include adoptive, step and in-law versions of these relationships
- If two members are related within the Find a Grave guidelines and both would like to manage the memorial, the member with the closer relationship will be considered for management first.
