I'm currently on a genealogical journey to research and document as much as I can about both my paternal and maternal family ancestry. It all started shortly after I took a DNA test from 23andMe. Some of the results took me by surprise which piqued my curiosity. This became the catalyst for me to actually begin doing the research. Although I'm still in the beginning stages, I'm enjoying learning new things about my family history and communicating with newly found relatives along the way.
A little about my family history:
Paternal Side - Most of the relatives I know live in Texas, and many were born/died in Palestine, Anderson County.
Father - Robert Craig Nix
Grandfather - Marvin Fritzhugh Nix
Grandmother - Francis Marie Carroll Nix
Great Grandfather - Robbie Lee Carroll
Great Grandmother - Sallie Ethel King Carroll (later Congleton)

Maternal Side - I don't know as much about my ancestors on my mother's side of the family because I grew up in Texas, and my mom was born and raised in Pennsylvania (specifically Coudersport, Potter County).
Mother - Theresa Ann Sevinsky Nix
Grandfather - Thomas J Sevinsky
Grandmother - Louise S Caffo Sevinsky
Great Grandfather - Joseph Sliwinski
(Family surname was changed to Sevinsky after immigrating to America. Still trying to confirm why.)
Great Grandmother - Helena Jonczyk Sliwinski

I believe my grandmother (Caffo-Sevinsky) was born in Italy and my great grandfather (Sliwinski) was born in Poland. However, my 23andMe DNA results show that I'm appx. 25% Polish (which makes sense), but it also shows that I have no Italian DNA. This was surprising to me since I was always told that my mom's mom was Italian. Several of my siblings also took a 23andMe test and received similar results. This is one mystery that I'm very interested in solving.
