Bio

I live in Ceredigion, Wales, UK, although my family history interests lie in Dorset and Somerset (southern England), which is where my ancestral families - maternal and paternal - mostly originate from. I also have an interest in Cumbria (northern England) and Fifeshire (Scotland), where my husband's ancestral roots lie.

The memorials I upload to here are mostly from churches near to where I live in Ceredigion; many of which have inscriptions written in Welsh, which I do my best to translate into English, to make them more readable for non-Welsh speaking people.

I feel that photographing gravestones/memorials and recording their inscriptions is important so that the 'messages' they contain are preserved for present-cum-future generations to find out more about their ancestors, and to learn more about past people's lives.

Many gravestones/memorials give details about people's lives, such as their occupation, and together can indicate the presence of disease or industrial accidents or other information that tells us more about a particular community in bygone days.

All of which, I find interesting and I hope others do too.
