Nicholas Lowe is an interdisciplinary visual artist, author, curator, and teacher, with tenure as Professor in Historic Preservation and Architecture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His visual work and research is concerned with narrative traditions and landscape with a focus on muti-modal panoramic and immersive media, maps and landscape history.

Lowe serves as an executive board member of the International Panorama Council (IPC) Lucerne Switzerland, and is a co-founding Executive Editor of the Panoramic and Immersive Media Studies Yearbook –De Gruyter–Brill, Berlin Germany. He is also a member of the Oregon and California Trails Association and the Chicago Map Society.
