As most of us do when we reach retirement age, I started the journey of discovering my ancestors. From there I found many deceased people were remembered through Find A Grave. This, to me, was pretty awesome and I was hooked from the beginning.
Born and raised in Minnesota in a large family, I was familiar with cemeteries, it seemed we were always attending a funeral, but I never really gave them too much thought. My family line comes from Czechoslovakia and Ireland, the two sides immigrated to the US in the 1800's. Both sides of the family settled mostly in Minnesota and Wisconsin, some left to homestead North Dakota. In the later years others opted for Montana and Washington.
I am still fairly new at this but each day brings a new lesson. My goal, besides finding my ancestors, is to bring a voice to those who are no longer among us physically. I like to think that each time a name is added to this incredible memorial site someone is smiling down at us. Hopefully we are helping those who are looking for their ancestors with the building of these memorials.
