I am very interested in my genelogy. I am a decendent of John McKnitt Alexander of Mecklenburg County North Carolina. Who settled and surveyed the area, and a signer of the Mecklenburg County Declaration of Independence on May 20,1775. My paternal line Alexander and Bain, Campbell, Davidson, Thomasson, My material line is Gladden, Ferguson, Stevenson, Culp, Hall, Coleman. With more to find.
My paternal Grandfather was James Kirk Alexander of Mecklenburg County North Carolina. A brick mason, when he meet my Grandmother Mary Anna Alexander who's birthday I share. Then he was a share cropper with six son's and two daughters. Then they inherited land and he was a very prosperous dairy farmer and vegetable farmer. He grew 40 to 100 pound Black Seed Bradford watermelon . He was first to have a hand x-ray at Davidson College. He lived to be 95. My maternal Great-grandfather Andrew Henderson Alexander and Janie Elizabeth Campbell Alexander had seven daughters. They had seven water springs on their property with a well ram that produced water for him to sell the water to business's in the city of Charlotte. He used a horse and wagon for deliveries.
My maternal Grandfather worked for the school
system and police and a prosperous farmer. He purchased many acres during the depression of the 1920's and had a large pear orchard. He passed away just before my parents married. I grew up on inherited land in Mecklenburg County NC and I now live on inherited land in Chester County SC. In both states the land had been in the families for many years. I believe this is a very special gift from my ancestors. Which I cherish with all my heart !!.
