We have adopted the grave of Private Charles Jesse Uplinger, a young American soldier who gave his life during World War II. Born on April 9, 1917, in Sherburn, Martin County, Minnesota, he served in Company C of the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, part of the 82nd Airborne Division. On October 2, 1944, during operations in the Netherlands, his unit advanced across the Mook plains toward the hamlet of Katerbosch. It was during this offensive that Private Uplinger was killed in action.

Since 1945, the people of Margraten have honored the fallen by adopting their graves, ensuring that each name is remembered and every story lives on. We are humbled to be part of this tradition.

Though we never knew Private Uplinger, we feel a deep connection to him. His sacrifice is not forgotten. By tending to his grave and learning about his life, we strive to keep his memory alive.
