By the mid 1750's Capt. James Dickey had pushed south into S.C. along with his son Edward James Dickey, grandfather of Shadrach Edward Dickey. They settled in the township of Williamsburg in Craven Co., S.C. where he became a planter. For three generations the Dickeys stayed on the S.C. land which was first in St. Mark's Parish, then Sumter District and then Williamsburg Co., S.C.
Mary McGill b. 1738 S.C.-d. 4 December 1765 S.C. To this union were born three children: Sarah b. 5 January 1762; James b. 21 October 1768 S.C.-d. 4 December 1798 S.C. who m. 21 June 1791 S.C. Lean Lenora Lenoir and Mary b. 4 December 1765 S.C.-d. 22 December 1765 S.C. Anne Wooten Neilson. To them were born six children; Elizabeth b. 9 May 1767 S.C.-d. 15 March 1772 S.C.; Mary b. 17 February 1769 S.C.; Esther b. 5 December 1771 S.C.-d. 13 September 1776 S.C.; Edward Jr. b. 7 May 1773; Anne b. 5 December 1775 S.C.-d. 17 September 1809 S.C.; Edward James Dickey was forty years old when the Revolution began. He believed in freedom and that the rights of people were not to be trifled with by the Frances Marion, the Swamp Fox, and became one of the group known as Marion's Men. They helped to protect S.C. against the British during the Revolutionary War. Even after he died on 21 August 1779 in Williamsburg Co., S.C., his will continued to provide supplies for Marion's Men. His widow, Anne, also continued to provide material aide to the cause.
Mary Atkinson b. 16 May 1776 S.C.-d. 11 August 1821 S.C. who he married on 15 March 1798 S.C. They were the parents of Shadrach returned to Thomas Co., Ga. in 1830, the wealth he had acquired enabled him to purchase six land lots of 250 acres over the next twenty years. The land was located 15 miles south of Thomasville close to the Ochlocknee River and a few miles south of the Florida line. Today the land is known as Birdsong. Shadrack died on 30 November 1847 leaving his land to his second wife and seven children.
