I have always been fascinated with olde Brooklyn Families and their history and since the advent of the internet with Ancestry and now Find a Grave it's turned into an obsession. These were people who once lived in a time of early Brooklyn, they witnessed the construction of the Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburgh bridges and probably walked across them on opening day, the birth of the rapid transit system, horse drawn carriages and early motor vehicles . They lived in a time before television when news was either spread by word of mouth or read in news papers. The birth of movie theatres when Marcus Loew built his majestic movie palaces, where they watched silent movies, news reels and eventual talking picture shows, the sinking of the Titanic, the Malbone street disaster. They lived in an era when Brooklyn was once a separate city. They witnessed Brooklyns rapid transit expansion during the industrial revolution, if they were still here imagine the stories they could share with us, but sadly they're not. Now they are just mere headstones in local cemeteries long forgotten never to be remembered again, until my nosey a$$ came along, I've been long interested in the Stoddard , MacKirdy and MacKirgen families, if any of their descendants are out here and come across my page please feel free to contact and if you can provide my with family photos I'd be beyond grateful.
