Living in north central Van Buren County, Michigan. Originally from NYS and long interested in history and the history of place.
Now retired, I'm photographing stones that we are about to lose to the ages and to remember those to whom they belong. More, seeing those buried here previous to ~1850 we know these early settlers walked here from places afar (Mostly New York and Ohio) and that tell stories all on its own.
The history of a place is in its graveyards and from the condition of older stones one can tell the wealth of a family and place. From the number of young burials we can know of the general, overall health of a place.
