I felt powerless looking for family members I don't know. We were coal miners, lumberjacks, railroad builders, and factory workers. Our names have been misspelled from ellis island to the payroll rosters. When the company closed the mines, disgruntled wirkers burned down the office and documentation was lost.

A close, chosen family member of mine was left at the hospital after she passed. Her husband neglected to confirm her identity, stole her credit card, and left town. She is now buried in an unmarked potter's grave somewhere near our home town. We learned of this injustice weeks after her death. We have yet to find her.
