Hi, I'm recently retired and have embraced genealogy.

I am actively researching my Ukrainian (paternal) and Italian (maternal) roots. When my family emigrated to American at the turn of the 19th century, they did not speak the language, had little money, no family and limited skills. Like most immigrants, they were seeking a better life in America. 

They ended up settling in Northeastern PA and all of my male relatives became coal miners. It was a difficult and dangerous occupation. I am thankful for the sacrifices they made as they paved the way for future generations.  

I view my genealogy efforts as a way to honor their memory.
