I am on this site as part of my work to gather information about my great-aunt Elida and her family in Missouri and Texas.

The USA branch of my family
My great‑aunt, Elida Andersen (later Hess), was born in Hamar, Norway, in 1891 and arrived at Ellis Island on 4 October 1910. She was the daughter of Hjalmar (b. 1869) and Elisabet Andersen (b. 1865), and had four brothers, including my maternal grandfather, Alfred Andersen.
Upon arriving in the United States, her registered destination was Minnesota and a desire to be able to earn more as a domestic worker there than she did in Norway. We know little about her time in Minnesota, but it was hardly easier to be a domestic worker there than in Norway. At some point, she apprenticed as a hairdresser and met a barber named George.
In 1916 she married George Bernard Hess (1875–1969) in Missouri. They settled in Kennett, Dunklin County, where George worked as a barber and Elida as a hairdresser.
They had two sons: George A. (b. 1916) and Jon Daniel (b. 1921).
Both sons enlisted in the US Air Corps and moved to Wichita Falls, Texas. Jon later pursued a long Air Force career in Texas, Florida and Japan before returning to Wichita Falls in the late 50ies (ca. 1959 ?), while George A. returned to Missouri and took up work as a barber.
George A. died in 1962 without children. Jon had three: Zan, Marla and Sheila.
Zan served in 2ND BN, 503RD INFANTRY, 173RD ABN and was KIA at Dak To on 13th of November 1967.

All suggestions for changes to existing gravesites for my American family members, or for the establishment of new ones, are based on 1910 Ellis Island arrival records; 1920, 1930, 1940, and 1950 census returns; marriage and death certificates; newspaper articles from Wichita Falls, TX; and conversations with my mother.
