I've been interested in family history since I was about 12 (in 1980), when my aunt Claudette came for a visit armed with a stack of family tree charts and research she had already done on our Combs line. That was the spark. I didn't really dig in until I joined Ancestry in 2003, and like a lot of beginners I made plenty of mistakes—mainly accepting whatever I found in other people's trees without checking sources.
In the last couple of months I've gotten serious about doing it right. I'm learning and applying the Genealogical Proof Standard, actively building and correcting my tree on WikiTree, cleaning up the errors I made years ago on Ancestry, and contributing to (and correcting) FamilySearch. I'm also keeping a tree on MyHeritage because it's linked to my FamilyTreeDNA results. I'm equally interested in traditional research and genetic genealogy.
