Stoddards descended from John Stoddard/Stodder of Hingham, Mass. and related families.There are three major Stoddard clans whose progenitors are John of Hingham, Mass., Anthony of Boston, Mass. and John of Wethersfield, Conn. Nothing has been found to connect these three men together as part of the same family but all came from England. There are also numerous small clans of Stoddards that are unable to be linked to the three major clans.
