The U.S.S. Cyclops and 306 crew/passengers vanished without a trace around 04 Mar 1918. The Cyclops was on a voyage from Rio de Janeiro to Baltimore, Maryland. It was carrying a large cargo of manganese ore which was to be used in the production of munitions. Assistant Secretary of the Navy Franklin D. Roosevelt declared the U.S.S. Cyclops to be officially lost and all hands deceased on 01 Jun 1918. All on-board were officially given their date of death as 14 Jun 1918.
