The Box Cemetery of Alcorn Co. MS is on land (SE 1/4 Sec. 20 T2S R5E) that was patented to Robert Box on June 15, 1843. On December 13, 1856, Abraham B. Box bought the tract from the living heirs of Robert Box. The gravestone of Robert Box in Box Cemetery is evidence the Cemetery was established before December 1856. There are native stone grave markers for unidentified persons. One native stone engraved with the initials of R. B. is assumed to mark the grave of Robert Bright, a grandson of Robert Box, whose parents were paying the taxes on the tract in the early 1860s. Other family members who may be unidentified in the cemetery would be:William M. Box, son of Robert and Patsy Box; husband of Martha Box.Mary Box Kennedy, daughter of Robert and Patsy Box, and once an owner of the adjoining tract of land.Sanders Kennedy, husband of Mary Box Kennedy.Robert Kennedy, son of Sanders and Mary Kennedy.Zack Skinner of Tiplersville, MS ordered Confederate Memorials for Abe L. Box, Sr. and Abe L. Box, Jr. on June 26, 1930. Apparently the Box Cemetery was allowed to return to a wooded state in the years after that.
