After a year of research, I was able to locate the whereabouts of his grave in Culpeper Va. in the middle of a cornfield. Obtained an iron cross from my local SCV/OCR and the flags that Joe fought under, and placed it under a shady elm pointing it towards NC. His death; untimely from a stroke (Congestion of the brain) at the Orange Courthouse in Orange Va. Wounded at Antietam and returned to battle. Fought in many other skirmishes and survived the Battle at Bristoe Station.(46th NCV Co K Catawba Braves ANV) Have yet been able to locate a photo of him, but still searching...
