Hogue Cemetery is about 3 miles north of Hartville, MO on Z highway. It is on a hill just up from the old Jess McNealy homestead. Jess gave 2 acres of his land to the Colored folks for a cemetery many years ago.I was told by Jean Davis Perkins originally from Hartville, that it was called a "catch all" cemetery because so many different families were buried there. For the last 40 years I have continued what the older folks did before me and financed the upkeep of the cemetery. It has been my privilege to do so. I often wonder why more people who have relatives there will not help take care of it.Anyway it is a beautiful place with much history. I plan to post pictures that I have taken over the years shortly.In the old days, the pallbearers would carry the coffin up the big hill and all the families would follow singing hyms, then they would have the graveside service. More often than not, coon dogs would also attend. :)
