This virtual cemetery contains my Mills family ancestry from New Jersey to Iowa to Minnesota. Hopefully this will help all of the descendants of this line come together and aid in the search for our mystery Mills/Pierson ancestry. I have researched the family back to John Mills and Elizabeth Pierson in Sussex county New Jersey. I am currently working with other descendants to piece together their ancestry and story but we are having a great deal of difficulty tracing them back any further. We have an old family biography sketch written by Robert L. Steenrod back in the 1950s and are working on retracing and verifying his research. Much of the information has proved fairly accurate so I believe he was on the right track working with the more limited sources he had available at that time. Through ancestry dna matches and shared tree information, we have been able to verify or confirm most of the descendants that Robert Steenrod listed in his biography. What we are trying to do now is verify his research further back and establish some connection to other Mills/Pierson families.John Mills was born abt. 1760 in New Jersey? He was married at least once prior to his marriage to Elizabeth Pierson and had at least one son, Joseph from that marriage. He married Elizabeth Pierson in Oct. 1801 at Roxbury twnshp. John and Elizabeth had the following children: Pierson Mills 1802-1874, John Mills 1806-1870,George Banghart Mills 1810-1848. The older son Joseph was born abt. 1795? There is a possible daughter Jane born abt. 1810 and a son Charles born abt. 1815. Sons John and and Pierson moved to Ohio and then John and many of the families from Ohio moved on to Iowa. George died in New Jersey and his two children remained in New Jersey. The possible Jane would have married a John Cooper and remained in New Jersey. Son Charles supposedly moved to Orange county New York, married an Eliza? and died abt. 1895.Please note that this John Mills is not the John Mills that married Permiliah Seeley and moved to Canada. There seems to be much confusion about this and no matter how much research I show to prove they can not be the same person, many people continue to mix the two families together!If anyone knows anything about this John Mills and his wife Elizabeth Pierson, or may be a descendant of theirs, please contact me!
