She had long black, straight hair, black eyes, and a reddish complexion. This was the description of her given by one of her sons, John L Miller, before the Indian Council in the Choctaw Nation as she was one quarter Choctaw. Her father was William Edwards, and he was one half. Mary had 4 sons that I know of. These families were all born in Mississippi, and decided to go to the Choctaw Nation to claim citizenship in about 1875. As they traveled through Texas, they decided to "get off" at McKinney and visit an uncle and former neighbor in Hunt County whose name was Finis Johnson. He persuaded them to stay and make a crop. They ended up staying 19 years before going on to Indian Territory.
