The Town of Maine Cemetery is located at the southeast corner of Touhy Avenue and Dee Road in Park Ridge, Illinois. The 21-acre cemetery was chartered in 1858, although the oldest tombstones date from 1822. The gate house, which serves as the cemetery office, was built in 1915. It is a chapel-like structure, designed in part by Alfonso Iannelli (1888-1965), artist, sculptor, and industrial designer. Among his best-known works are the interior of the Pickwick Theater (Park Ridge), the signs of the zodiac around the Adler Planetarium (Chicago), the relief façade of the Prudential Building (Chicago) and the sprites at Frank Lloyd Wright's bygone Midway Gardens (Chicago) Mr. Iannelli lived and worked in Park Ridge and is buried in the cemetery.
Responsibility for the oversight of the cemetery belongs to the Town of Maine Cemetery Association. Its Board of Trustees consist of volunteer members elected to two-year terms.
The Park Ridge Historical Society presents an annual program called "The Spirits of Old Park Ridge". Local actors in period dress portray some of the historical figures that are buried in the cemetery.
The cemetery is known for the unique designs of many of its monuments. They include personal touches that may not be allowed in other cemeteries.
