Means Cemetery
Mount Sterling, Brown County, Illinois, USA
At the outset there were only four monuments and one slab stone standing and these all in need of work. 1974- as of now we have unearthed, repaired and set in concrete the following: four square monuments all of considerable size and sixteen marble slab markers.
This cemetery was vandalized many years ago, probably more than fifty years ago, and the fallen stones were mostly under several inches of earth thereby preserving the legends from the weather. This was no doubt caused by hogs rooting as in no other way could they have been covered so deeply.
These grounds were well fenced some fifteen or twenty years ago and are now protected from livestock. The entire area was overgrown with brush but is now clean. This cemetery was completely restored by O. G. Jones during the fall of 1974.
