Waldheim Cemetery Co. (also known as Jewish Waldheim) is a large cemetery comprised of more than 260 unique gated- or arched-entranced cemeteries. Different family groups, congregations, landsmanshaften, vereins and other organizations were sold individual sections of cemetery land beginning in 1870. Some of the architectural elements have suffered from weather over the years and have been removed or are in disrepair.

A unique Gate numbering system exists for these individual cemeteries.

Obituaries or death records sometimes note the individual cemeteries within Waldheim, for example, some note that the decedent was buried in "Pavolitch (or Pavelotcher) Cemetery," indicating a portion of Waldheim served by Gates 100 and 206. Additionally, obituaries or records indicating P.O.W. as the burial site refer to "Progressive Order of the West," a section of Waldheim served by Gate 37. And others may mention "North West (or Northwest/Northwestern) Hebrew Congregation" which is located at Gate 41 C. The decedents whose records or obituaries list these or similar appropriate cemetery references should all have memorials added to Waldheim.
