The church was originally founded in 1723. The first building was first constructed in 1724 and finished in 1728 at approximately 36 feet square with a Dutch hip roof ascending to a central belfry and steeple. In 1799, a new edifice was built a short distance to the west of the original building. Opposing elements within the congregation split with the mainstream and founded the North Schraalenburgh Reformed Church in 1801. In 1913, the church joined the Presbyterian Church and changed their name to the South Presbyterian Church. The South Church House was dedicated on September 1952. The church was added to the NRHP in 1975.
