In 1887, the Gloucester Point Chapel was organized. In 1894 the chapel had been outgrown; so a new building was commenced on this site. In 1904 Bethany Methodist Church was ordained. Growth continued until January 16, 1982 when a disastrous fire destroyed the building beyond repair. Almosti mmediately a new church building was started on the present site and completed for services on October 23, 1983. Gloucester Point Cemetery is located directly behind the church on Hayes Road at Gloucester Point, Virginia. Gloucester Point Cemetery has been divided into "Sections" to allow greater ease in locating specific grave sites. Each Section is separated by a road. When standing at the center road in back of the church and facing the cemetery, Section "AA" will be the first section on the left. (Ref: website - usgwarchiver.net)
