The cemetery was established circa 1850 and was originally called Blue Creek Cemetery. It is located on a hill within a hollow long known as Reece Hollow on Cuba Landing Road on the North Fork of Blue Creek. From information in his will, it appears Henry Randall Reece donated the original 1-1/2 acres. Around the 1920s, Robert Henry McKeel donated additional land and the name changed to McKeel. A survey map by TVA in 1939 indicated there were 600+ graves. The current size of McKeel Cemetery is 5.4 acres.
