The New Haven City Burial Ground (known as Grove Street Cemetery), opened 1796, is the oldest cemetery in the nation designed as a "city of the dead," with named avenues and cross streets. A National Historic Landmark, it is also the first chartered burial ground in the United States and the first to be arranged in family lots.
The cemetery grounds are open 365 days a year from 8 am until 4 pm.
The cemetery office is open Monday through Friday from 8 am until 2 pm.
