Madden Cemetery
Also known as Terryville Cemetery
Ruston, Lincoln Parish, Louisiana, USA
The cemetery is in poor shape, the old fence has fallen down, area covered with vines, brush, etc. There are 3 old Funeral Home Markers inside the fenced area, but are illegible. Two of the markers were located on the back side of the fence, which would indicate that they were not related to the family.
The "Terryville Cemetery" had been long abandoned by an early cemetery survey in the early 1950s. It was noted that the cemetery was established as a community burial ground and was situated near a church, both of which existed "long before the Civil War." An elderly resident at the time informed researchers that Terryville was once a settlement with a school, Masonic Lodge, and church. At one time, this cemetery reportedly possible held up to a hundred graves, some of which were marked at one time. By the 1950s, only one family lot with 8 adult graves remained. The lot was 15x15 feet and surrounded by a low concrete wall, inside of which was an old iron fence around 6 of the graves.
