Sacred Heart Parish was established in 1898. The first church was a white frame church. The present stone church was built in the 1920's.
The present school building was built in 1956 and 1857, which consisted of three classrooms and a convent which were separated by a hallway.
During the night of August 28, 1963, a tornado struck the school lifting the roof intact off the school side of the building and laying it in the cemetery directly behind the school building, breaking off many of the headstones. Some of the headstones were replaced and some were not.
