This photo gives a larger view of the cemetery. It is up on a hill on the right side of the road on Co Rd 53.

Allison Cemetery, about a mile west of the Allen Cemetery.

Located on a tract of land patented in 1831 by Isma Hellum, east of Hellum's Hollow, in Township 2 South, Range 6 East, near the center of the northern half of Section 10.
The earliest marked (readable) grave dates from 1841: Lowry C. Allison, the son of James Lowry Allison who received his patent on land just east of the Isma Hellum tract in 1838. Whether Lowry C. Allison was the first burial is unknown. Several families are buried here, most of them connected as in all small communities.

The entire southern half of Section 10 (land south of County Road 53) was patented in 1831 by Levi Isbell, John Gentry and John Owens. Levi Isbell, Hugh Gentry (John's father) and John Owens had reportedly been "squatted" on these lands for more than a decade before 1831. The property was described variously as at the “head of Big Coon Creek,” east of Matthews Cove, and east of Hytop, Alabama.

At the organization of the Mud Creek Baptist Association in 1821, Hugh Gentry, John Owens and Levi Isbell were the delegates from Providence Church, described as being near their homes. The church disbanded in 1824. If the Allison Cemetery, as it is known, was a community cemetery rather than strictly a family cemetery, and was not on property owned by the Allisons (who owned a great deal more land in the area) it possible this was the site of the original Providence Church.
