Greely CME Cemetery
Mount Enterprise, Rusk County, Texas, USA
Greely Cemetery (historically recorded as Greeley Cemetery or Greely CME Cemetery) is a historic African American burial ground located in the Concord community of southern Rusk County, Texas. The cemetery sits adjacent to the historic Greely Colored Methodist Episcopal (now Christian Methodist Episcopal) Church off US Highway 84, approximately 5 miles east of Mount Enterprise.
The burial ground came into active community use around 1920, with the earliest documented permanent stone marker dating to 1931. The cemetery contains a significant number of early, undocumented, and unmarked graves originally designated with temporary wooden stakes or local ironstone and fieldstones.
In the late 1940s to early 1950s, the cemetery footprint expanded significantly when graves from the nearby historic Boles/Graves Cemetery were relocated here by the state during the widening and modernization of US Highway 84. These reinterments are situated primarily along the sloped, eastern grid lines bordering the wooded perimeter. The site continues to serve as an active, sacred community space managed by the local church cemetery committee.
