From Bethany go west on Hwy 136 & Hwy 69 until the Hwys separate. The cemetery is north of the Mitchellville Church on the east side. It is fenced and can be seen from the road. There have been no burials at this location for over 40 years.

The cemetery was started in 1846 and the first person to be buried here was Jacob Mitchell. He was killed by his good friend, Josiah Spurgin.

The church still stands. The Mitchell family graveyard is all but gone. Stones that once marked the graves of some of the earliest Harrison County settlers have been lost, broken or sunk into the soil. Others have been stolen.

A memorial was erected in the summer of 1974. The old cemetery included broken grave markers in the southwest corner of a pasture on the farm of Claude Cox. The memorial has a concrete base poured on the site of the old Mitchell plot. The old grave markers were set in concrete and the stone reads, "Memorial to the Mitchell, Byrd, Arnold, Martin, Hull, Gardner, and other pioneers buried on this knoll in the 1800s. Erected in 1974 by the descendants of James M. and Lucinda E. Mitchell."

The number of Mitchells buried in this plot is unknown.
