The church lists that they and the cemetery are located in the Ellijay and not in Franklin.

On Thursday January 25, 1894, Andrew Jackson and Mary Catherine Moore deeded the two original acres to the Ellijay Missionary Baptist Church and helped build it's building. Ruth Moore Young, Jackson's sister, was the first person buried in the cemetery.

Mrs. Ruth Moore Young who lived across the valley on the mountain longed for a church to be built on this hill and requested when she died she be buried on this hill. Preacher Marion Morgan promised he would do all he could to get a church built. Mrs. Moore died in her fifties on April 10, 1892. Her brother, Jackson Moore, better know as Captain Jack, owned the land. They cleared the trees off for a spot for her grave. She was the first person buried on this hill. Captain Jack Moore gave this land to be a cemetery and Missionary Baptist Church forever.

In 1893, one year after Ruth Moore Young dies, work started on the old church. All the people worked together. They donated labor or whatever they had to get the church started.

We had several unmarked graves in our cemetery. We wanted to level the graves and sow grass, but we were afraid we would lose some graves. Fred Mincey came up with the idea of buying a small stone for each unmarked grave and putting a number on the stone. The rows of graves were numbered. This was put on a chart, so the people could find the name and number of the stone and row on the chart and go to the grave. The chart is in the back of the church.
