Hawks Cemetery
Hernshaw, Kanawha County, West Virginia, USA
This cemetery is located across Route 94 from the Hernshaw Community Church (formerly United Methodist Church) at 2827 Lens Creek Road. While at the church, look to the right of the private yard and you will see a set of 8 concrete steps. Then there is a small "Cemetery" sign and a small bridge.
The climb to the cemetery is very difficult. The graves are spread out and go across the front of the hill and far up the hill. On a visit on October 24, 2024, large trees had fallen and damaged about 4-6 headstones. The cemetery evidently has not been maintained for many years.
The earliest burials were at least five in 1921. The most recent was in 2016. The cemetery contains grave markers from many Hernshaw area families, including the Asbury, Griffith, Hughey, Toney, Mitchell, Meadows and Green families.
