Chief Leschi Cemetery
Also known as Nisqually Tribal Cemetery, Squa Lay Umpsh Cemetery
Nisqually, Thurston County, Washington, USA
Formally dedicated in 1925 as the Squa-lay-umpsh cemetery, this burying ground was created to receive burials relocated from north of the Nisqually River after Pierce County seized that part of the Nisqually reservation in 1917 to create Camp Lewis, now Joint Base Lewis McChord.
Burials from several tribal cemeteries were moved to this part of the George Bobb allotment, now known as the Chief Leschi Cemetery. Internments in this cemetery that predate the 1920s were relocated from elsewhere.
