This cemetery was abandoned in the 1970s. According to the Iowa Genweb website, there are two Oakland Cemeteries in Louisa County. One is in Marshall Twp. and is well cared for. The other (this one) is in Oakland Township and has several names including Blake, Coffin, Carpenter and Smith. At least eight Civil War soldiers are buried here. Access has recently been cleared as has the cemetery itself. The official name is now Coffin-Carpenter Cemetery. The former town of Oakland was located north of the cemetery.
